How to post WooCommerce products to social media

Published

Listing a product and then announcing it on three networks is the same information typed four times. Here is how to enter it once, and what the connection to WooCommerce actually requires.

The short answer

You fill in one product form: photo, name, price, description. It is created as a product in your WooCommerce store and published as a promo post on the social networks you tick, each with its own caption.

Where one product goes

  • WooCommerce: created as a real product in your catalogue, with title, description and price.
  • Instagram: a promo photo on your feed.
  • Facebook: a promo photo on your Page.
  • Pinterest: a product pin.
  • Shopify: also supported as a store destination, if you sell on both.

That is up to five destinations from one entry. Product copy is written for search, and the social captions are written for each network rather than copied from the listing.

Connecting WooCommerce

This is the step to set aside ten minutes for. WooCommerce is connected with credentials you create yourself, not with a login button:

  1. In WordPress, go to Users, then Profile, and create an Application Password.
  2. In WooCommerce, go to Settings, then Advanced, then REST API, and add a key with Read/Write permission. You will get a consumer key and a consumer secret.
  3. Enter your site address, username, Application Password and the two keys in SOSPosting.

No plugin is installed on your site. If the connection is refused, a security plugin or firewall blocking the REST API is the usual cause. The WordPress integration page covers the details.

Cost and limits

  • Cost: 3 tokens per destination, plus 7 once for the AI-written copy. A product sent to WooCommerce, Instagram and Facebook with AI copy is 16 tokens.
  • Photos, not video. A product entry publishes photos. Post the product video separately and it reaches the video networks.
  • Pinterest publishing depends on Pinterest's own access approval for the app, so it may be temporarily unavailable on an account.
  • Self-hosted WordPress. The connection is built for sites you host, where Application Passwords and the WooCommerce REST API are available.

Frequently asked questions

Can I post WooCommerce products to Instagram automatically?

Yes. In SOSPosting a product entry creates the product in your WooCommerce store and publishes a promo photo to Instagram and Facebook in the same step, with a caption written for each.

What do I need to connect WooCommerce?

A self-hosted WordPress site with WooCommerce, a WordPress Application Password, and a WooCommerce REST API key pair with read and write access. The keys are created in WooCommerce under Settings, Advanced, REST API.

Does this work with Shopify instead?

Yes. The same product entry can create a product in a Shopify store. There is a separate guide to cross-posting Shopify products.

Can it post a product video?

A product entry publishes photos. A product video is published as a separate video post, which reaches Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and Threads.
