The short answer
Instagram's own website supports posting from a desktop browser — photos, videos and carousels. Use it when you want something live right now. When you want to plan posts ahead, or send the same post somewhere other than Instagram, the website stops being enough, and that is what the other two options are for.
1. Post from instagram.com
- Open instagram.com in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox and log in.
- Click Create (the + icon) in the left sidebar.
- Drag in a photo or a video — or several photos for a carousel.
- Crop and edit, clicking Next until you reach the caption.
- Write the caption and click Share.
This works for personal accounts as well as professional ones, which makes it the only desktop option here that doesn't need a Business or Creator account.
2. Plan ahead in Meta Business Suite
Meta's free desktop tool at business.facebook.com schedules Instagram posts alongside Facebook ones. It needs an Instagram professional (Business or Creator) account, though no Facebook Page is required, and it covers Meta's own apps only — which is exactly right if Instagram and Facebook are the only places you post.
3. Use a scheduler that also posts elsewhere
If the same photo also goes to LinkedIn, Pinterest, Threads or Bluesky — or the same vertical video to YouTube Shorts — a cross-posting tool saves you repeating the upload and rewriting the caption. With SOSPosting, from your computer:
- Connect Instagram once, through the Facebook Page it's linked to — that is how SOSPosting reaches Instagram. The setup guide takes about ten minutes.
- Upload a photo, a set of photos for a carousel, or a vertical video in the composer.
- Tick Instagram and whichever other networks you've connected. The AI writes captions by network family (Instagram, Threads and Bluesky share one), and Generate & review lets you edit the copy per network before it goes out.
- Publish now, or schedule it up to 60 days ahead.

Which should you use?
- One post, going live now: instagram.com. It's free, it's Instagram's own, and it works on any account.
- A queue of Instagram and Facebook posts: Meta Business Suite.
- The same content on networks outside Meta: a cross-posting tool. That is what SOSPosting is for, from a €10 pay-as-you-go token pack with no subscription.
For the networks Instagram pairs with most often, see Instagram and Threads, Instagram and LinkedIn and Facebook and Instagram, or the Instagram integration page for what the connection covers.
Frequently asked questions
Can you post on Instagram from a computer?
Yes. Instagram's website lets you create a post from a desktop browser on Windows or Mac: log in at instagram.com, choose Create, add your photos or video, write a caption and share. It works for personal and professional accounts.
Can you schedule Instagram posts from a computer?
Yes, with Meta Business Suite or a scheduling tool. Both need an Instagram professional account — Business or Creator — rather than a personal one.
Why can't a scheduling tool post to my personal Instagram account?
Meta's publishing API only works with professional accounts. Switching a personal account to Creator or Business is free in the Instagram app and keeps your followers and existing posts.
Can SOSPosting post Instagram Stories?
No. SOSPosting publishes Instagram feed photos, carousels and Reels. Stories are not supported.
